I would give this place 5 stars if it were not for the service. I've been twice, food was outstanding both times. But the waitress was awful. Had to flag her down for service and there was no crowd at all. Young girl. She was friendly enough but just unattentive. I'd go back though. Would give 5 stars if the service was good because the food is really, really good.

Anyone reading my earlier review of Blue Tortilla knows that this was one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Note that I said "was". My how things have changed. The service here is still friendly and welcoming, and both indoor and outdoor dining spaces are clean, bright and comfortable. However, I am saddened by the downturn in the food, with no corresponding dip in prices. I dined here for lunch with a work colleague. It was a beautiful day for outside dining so we positioned ourselves to people-watch outside, in bustling New Hope. I could swear I recall that chips & salsa were automatically brought to the table in the past, but no more. Now you pay for them. Okay, no big deal. However, the house-made salsa now tastes a lot more like sauteed/smoked, pureed tomato paste than it does like fresh salsa. It's not bad mind you, but nowhere near the flavor or freshness of the previous offering here. I can think of a couple chain Mex places with much better stuff. Demerit # 1. Our entrees arrived quickly. I chose the Tropical Pork Special. It was not so "special"after all. In fact I was disappointed to note that aside from a semi-bland offering of rice & beans, there was barely a good soup ladle full of actual Tropical pork. There might have been 5 or 6 actual, small pieces of fatty (although being honest -- flavorful & tender) pork in a green sauce with some raisins and a chunk or two of pineapple. I was really underwhelmed. My work colleague, who had not been here before had chicken mole enchiladas. He described them as "decent" but not great. Demerit #2. I don't know who's in charge of the kitchen here but someone is not paying attention to quality or customer satisfaction. If this basic lunch for two came in at say $20, we might have walked away thinking is was just a so-so lunch and not returned. However, two modest-sized (at best) lunch entrees, an iced tea, and some chips for $40? No thanks. Frankly, I feel that given the mediocre quality & small portions, these prices are way too high. Demerit #3. It's sad when a once great eatery gets maybe a little too comfortable, and forgets that the end-game is really satisfied customers who drag their friends in for repeat meals.

Went to blue tortilla on a perfect night to be by the river enjoying the outdoors. Sadly the food was a severe disappointment tonight. We have eaten here many times and were always impressed by the fresh authentic food. Tonight the tortillas were soggy microwaved disasters, the salsa verde was beyond sour with no balance of flavours and only 3 small piecesof pork in a sea of thin sauce.the carne asada taco was full of gristle and the special , tropical pork , was watery and the only taste was pineapple . Even the usually reliable beans and rice were cold and the beans tasted off. Even the drinks were served warm with just a little ice in the glasses . It was like we had come to a different restaurant by mistake. Totally unlike any meal here previously. I can only hope the chef had an appallingly bad night and this restaurant will recover its mojo .

Without a doubt the worse service I have ever experienced. On top of that it's advertised as BYOB. We brought our own tequila for margaritas. They charged 7.00 for mixers. OR $8.00 for a margarita of there own. When asked why so much the waitress say it's on the menu, you should have seen it. So rude. We asked for some help with the high cost since there was 8 in our party. They said no. They really did not care 1 bit. The waitress said we were rude because we questioned it. It was without a doubt the worst dining experience I have ever had. NEVER go here!!!

Terrible food, the service is ok but the food has terrible taste and no texture. Do not recommend this at all. Stay away.

This was my second time here. My Husband and I brought our 2 year old because he loves chips and guacamole. When we arrived, the seemingly aloof host told us to sit at a two top. If anyone reading this has small children, you know a two top does not have nearly enough room. We just showed ourselves over to 4 top. We waited for about 10 minutes for someone to come and greet us. We were about to leave when a nice woman came over and asked if we were being taken care of. She was shocked and apologetic when we told her no and gave her our entire order. The food is very delicious but $13 for a small bowl of guac is INSANE considering my steak salad was $15. It would have been nice for them to take the guac off the bill as it took so long for anyone to greet us but I can't expect all establishments to follow that practice. With all else New Hope has to offer in terms of dining I don't plan on rushing back here. #toughlove

Very disappointing! Extremely overpriced! Shrimp taco special was $21.95...price was not listed...two tacos with very little shrimp, a scoop of rice and shredded lettuce. We were shocked when we got the bill. Steak tacos were bland, but my husband added cheese when asked and promptly was charged 1.50. Definitely will not be going back.

So if you're read my last couple reviews, this is yet another byob. What can I say, I enjoy bringing my own booze. My bff and I decided to spend a beautiful Monday in New Hope. We brought a big bottle of moscato and were on our way. I've been to many restaurants in New Hope, but never made it to the Blue Tortilla. We arrived right at 12p and because it was a Monday there was absolutely no wait and they let us pick our outdoor seat. There was a table with a toddler, so we chose the table furthest away. I love kids, but not today. Our server was very friendly and joked when she saw our large bottle of wine, that she would help us with it. Clearly she didn't know us and we were more than capable of finishing it. I ordered enchiladas, the #10. I can't spell it but it had lots of beans and shredded chicken. It was good, but certainly not worth the $15. I also wasn't a fan of paying for chips and salsa on top of the high priced lunch entrees. I understand this is New Hope, but there is a burrito place not too far that was some delicious food for a lower price. I would certainly return for lunch again an enjoy the patio and some wine, but hopefully they'll rethink the charge for chips and salsa, would make the $15 enchiladas a bit more bearable.

We were looking for outside seating, where we could hang onto our bikes, get good food & great service. What we got was a perfect spot outside with our bikes leaning on the fence right next to us, a huge glorious fan too keep us cool, and amazing food & fantastic service. My first reaction, after a 20 or so mile bike ride was, "I want a DRINK!" When I saw the BYOB signs I was saddened. But lo- do not despair! They have a do-it-yourself margarita that's just amazing, if you like the rims salted and your drink on the rocks- oh yes I do!! The alcohol is "complementary" and the cold drink is $6.95. One can pay much more for a watery margarita up the street! The chips and salsa were fantastic! Yep you have to pay for them. (Considering the clientele of some of New Hope... You can't GIVE anything away.) Corn chips are made on the premise and completely GF! The green salsa is filled with tomatillos, lime, jalapeño, onion, etc. and the red sauce has a deep chipotle seasoning, quite spicy and so tasty. My BF and I had two very different meals. He's gluten free and had the #6 Pork in Salsa Verde and I had the chicken enchiladas with refried black beans. Both so yummy and FULL of truly Oaxacan Mexican flavors. For the enchiladas, I would recommend ordering the melted muster cheese vs. the white Mexican cheese if you are a true cheese lover like I am. I ended up getting an extra order of cheese to sprinkle over my two enchiladas but I was still missing the cheese. The service we got was very surprising. I read some of the recent past reviews and I have to say we had a server who was completely helpful, fast, and just all one can hope for in a waiter. He paid close attention to the gluten free needs of my handsome BF, and he was quick on the draw with extra napkins and salsa for me! I can't wait to go back again! Next time I will not let my plate go back without taking my leftovers with me. Even if I am on a bike ride!

This was by far, the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten. Not to mention, the service was pretty bad and the menu overpriced. I went with three other people who felt the same way. My sister-in-law and I had the chicken enchiladas that were supposed to have a black bean/cheese sauce both inside and out. The sauce was watery (literally liquid on the plate) and flavorless while the chicken was tough and bland. There was no cheese and definitely no seasoning/salt. The margarita tasted like lime juice squeezed in water. My brother had some kind of pork that looked horrendous. I was shocked they served it looking the way it did. I couldn't help but start laughing when they brought it out because it looked so bad that it was actually funny. The pork looked and tasted as if it has been sitting under a heat lamp for 2 weeks and the side of black beans looked hardened and dry as well. My husband also had a pork dish that was despicable. What we should've done was refused the food and bill and went elsewhere, however it was primetime for dinner on a weekend and we were all starving so the thought of waiting any longer at a different restaurant was out of the question. Instead, we each took a couple of bites and went home hungry. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place. I'm sure they have only survived by passerby's or /tourists.

Pretty good corn tacos, but they're really more like chicken flautas. Chips and red salsa were ok too, needed the red salsa to dip the chicken tacos into. Nothing extravagant, but we certainly enjoyed it as a family.

We had lunch there today with our two boys who are visiting from college and it was absolutely a horrible food experience. Authentic Mexican food....absolutely not! There is no flavor in any of the food at all. I had the cheese tamale which was all doughy and disfigured, my husband had the pork tamales which were bland and more dough than meat, one son had the steak tacos, and the other had the chicken enchilada. Everything was bland and not worth the #15-$18 a plate! They did have great coffee though and that is about it. We will skip this place and go to The Landing next time.

Ate here last night with my husband and we were both underwhelmed to say the least. We sat outside, and it took about 15 minutes before we were greeted by a waiter. I asked him a a couple questions about the menu and he was clueless. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup and one of their specials, ribs in verde sauce. My husband ordered the chicken tinga. Waited and waited and waited for the soup to come. Our waiter was nowhere to be found and I flagged down a waitress who went and got him. When I asked about the soup, he looked at me like I had 12 heads. He "forgot" to write it down. Our food came, and for $19.95 per entree, I was expecting more than 3 not so meaty ribs and my husband was expecting more than a half a cup of chicken. Asked for sour cream and napkins...never came. We won't be back.

ahhh ... OK Service was incredible... Food was weird... They claim authentic Mexican and not Tex-Mex. It is entirely possible that I am not used to "Authentic Mexican" I have to be honest. We had several platters, all very expensive for the small servings. The outside seating was awesome. We looked up at the beautiful blue skies in the west getting darker by the minute. We were sat immediately, which is a feat with 6 people. My date had cow tongue and of course we were all really excited to taste it. Te fact that they had cow tongue(we love when we are able to sample different cultures) and great service is the reason for the 5 stars. If I were only reviewing food, it would have to be 1 star(minus the cow tongue(which I did not like, ut it was fun). It was like eating my own tongue...lol It was chewy and weird.... The black beans were the best I ever had!! Bottom line... it was fun, but pricey!! Service was friendly, food was OK. Oh, the mole was good as well(very chocolaty) and rich

  • Karel A.

Ate there twice, each time the service was mediocre, the food bland, and small portinoned, resembling a meal best served in a HS lunchroom. It was also pricey for what it was. There seems to be such a disparity in the reviews between those that describe the place as being trully great and those that better match my experience, that it begs the question whether the reviews are fake or an entirely different restaurant was visited

ok so the food was good here... that's about where it ended. i purchased some really nice tequila just before coming here (byob) and we ordered the margarita drink so we could mix the tequila in... they charged us $10 per cup of mix... which came in a plastic party cup.......... $10...... for what?! anyway, that was pretty jaw dropping. the service was pretty sub par, the waitress pretty much acted like we didn't exist, even when i was waving my hand trying to get the check. i'm an above average tipper (20%+) but i couldn't get myself to give more than a measly sum. came here with 3 people and they all agreed that the whole experience was sub par at best. the food was decent, i would never come back here again though... unless it was to order takeout. literally the ONLY reason i'm giving 2 stars.

In New Hope and wanted to sit down for some Mexican food. A quick google search landed me at this spot. Some of the items here are amazing, others are sub-parr. Pros: The salsa is hands down, the best thing on the menu. Not really like any salsa Ive had before since its smooth and not chunky, but really awesome. The refried beans were also fantastic. The best part of this place however was just the location and outdoor seating. No better than other outdoor seating areas, but great nonetheless. Tl;dr: salsa, beans, seating Cons: There were enough cons that Im not looking forward to going back, but I always like to try a restaurant twice before making any brash decisions. The guacamole was bland and over priced, if you get it, you'll know what I mean. The chicken tinga was kind of boring and super liquidy. Had never heard of this dish before, but I probably wont be getting this anywhere again. The worst part was the price, this Mexican food was Really really expensive! Not quite sure why either since there are other much better, more affordable Mexican food places in the area... Within walking distance. Tl;dr: guac, chicken tinga, price Mid: Service and timeliness were both fine.

It's a shame that it's 2014 and so many people still go to this place expecting tex mex and not having a true understanding of Authentic Mexican. This is the best Authentic Mexican you can find in the Northeast. How many places are you getting fresh handmade tortillas like this? You might get that at Rosa Mexicana (now that place is overpriced) and pay twice as much and get 1/2 the portion. The gripes about this place seem ridiculous to me considering how good it is. Also, they have best Mole I've had outside of Mexico. It's much earthier and flavorful over the common overly sweetened moles you would a find at decent Mexican places. It's very sad that such a place gets 3 stars and you have people saying that they're "not used to Authentic Mexican". You shouldn't be reviewing.

  • Marlyn V.

Hands down the worst Mexican restaurant I've been too. Not only was the food mediocre, the service is slow, the prices are ridiculously high ANDDDD I've NEVER been to a Mexican spot where you have to pay for your chips ($3 - no refills) AND separately the salsa ($2, and NOT pico de gallo). I did not have very high expectations for this place due to the mixed reviews. But considering I have yet to have a horrible experience in New Hope, I was starving and it was a sunny gorgeous day....we opted to try Blue Tortilla. The first red flag should've been when we saw that the Landing next door had an 1.5 hour wait and this place had open outdoor seating. We opted to order two appetizers and some margaritas due to the crazy prices, but because the service was SO SLOW we decided to just give in to the $5 surcharge of chips and salsa while we waited. The red sauce we chose was not good, to the point that we were putting lime from our drinks in it to make it better AND salt. Then 40 minutes later our two appetizers finally arrived - a chicken quesadilla and macho nachos. The nachos were supposed to "easily feed three" according to our server. Clearly she must've not noticed that all three of us were Latinos because the small plate (with added pork) fed one. Thankfully the nachos were good, lots of cheese, some strange dressing on them, the pork was good in flavor but barely any on there....definietely not worth the $17 for an appetizer. Then came the chicken quesadilla. I have never been so appalled by a chicken quesadilla. When a Wawa store makes a better quesadilla than your restaurant....you have a problem! It was boiled (unseasoned) chicken with melted cheese on a baby tortilla, folded in half. I kid you not. The refried beans must've been made a week before because they were gross. The rice was good, soft and edible...and we fought over the last morsel since this plate was $18. Every entree on the menu (if you are adding any meat) will run you $20+ and the the plates are tiny - unlike in good Mexican restaurants where exactly the reverse tends to happen. I get it, you pay for the New Hope name....I don't care....feed me well or lower the price. If it wasn't for the fact that my sister was visiting and my boyfriend is a saint, I would've flipped a table and demanded some free margaritas to make up for my dismay. So go to On the Border/Taco Bell to eat, come to New Hope for drinks, thank me later.

Decent place. Nothing over the top. A little on the pricey side for wha t you get. We had both the red and green salsa. I liked the red :)

Ok, I don't think some people here that are reviewing this place understand or are used to authentic Mexican food. Nor do I think they understand the high prices that have to be paid for a quality meal. If you want cheap Mexican food then no this place isn't for you. But if you want the real deal, this place is it. I've been coming here since I was 15 years old. And I've eaten at plenty of places across the country. But this remains a top spot. I still remember chatting with the man who used to run this place before his death a while back. The recipes being served here are passed down through their Mexican family. The salsa is some of the best I've ever tasted. The service is great. The food is great. The location is great. Come here and decide for yourself if you like it though. Everyone's got an opinion. You might as well give it a shot before shooting it down to reviewer A wanted Tex-Mex and didn't get it.

I have attempted to eat at Blue Tortilla twice in the past 10 years. Both times I have been turned away at the door - whether my party is too large or because my stroller was too large for their courtyard. I could have folded my stroller or sat among a few tables to accommodate their smaller size - but instead of being offered these options, or being offered a wait until more tables opened up, i was simply asked to leave. I do not know what the problem with this establishment is, but I will never again attempt to visit. The Landing is right next door, and the food there is delicious.

Little Mexico it isn't, but you can do a lot worse in the world of near-Mexican food. Based on reviews, we were expecting to overpay, so that didn't bother us. It was actually more of a phenomenon we were witnessing, like an eclipse, or fat-free salad dressing: somehow this place stays in business serving small plates of average food made from inexpensive ingredients, in a modest setting, while charging insanely for it. The hostess was friendly but a little worrisome, and the table service was very good. Believe the reviews: this place has OK food, good service, and bullshit prices.

Easily as good as Mexican food gets!

  • Michelle K.

We loved the BYOB but lunch options were quite pricy. You have to pay for chips and any kind of salsa or pico so if you're expecting that then you'll have to pay at least $5 on top of the meal. The pico we ordered was too tasty and very fresh but took at least 20 minutes to come. My boyfriend ordered one of the enchiladas soaked in Oaxaca cheese - it was weirdly purple and salty but good. I ordered the chicken pumpkin seed mole special and it was inedible. The chicken was too dry and the sauce was a. not tasty and b. too salty to eat. It also came with no vegetables. Just the dry chicken, salty sauce, and Mexican rice. Very sweet waitress though so I would give 5 stars for her service. If it hadn't been byo and I hadn't been really enjoying the day with the boyfriend, I would have 100% sent my meal back.

Good food and what appears to be authentic Mexican. The menu is somewhat limiting but good enough. Portions are small though and prices are way high. I get that it's a premium to eat in Main Street in new hope but 60 for 2 people to eat lunch seems like a double premium. Good fresh food though - all the pork dishes are good and the beef tacos excellent. Not sure i can go back and pay $17 for 2 steak tacos though - and then $5 for chips and salsa...

Entered this restaurant because we were hungry and there were two window stickers indicating that they accepted my credit card. After eating a very undistinguished meal and being presented with the check, the waitress informed my that the restaurant no longer accepted my card. When I asked to speak to the owner for an explanation of the signage she told me that he did not speak English. We will never return.

This place was horrible. The service staff was trained poorly. Ordered the nachos and then waiter handed the very hot plate right out of the oven to my fiancee who then burned her hand. I feel bad for the wait staff as they were very young and poorly trained by the management and owners. This place sucks, stay away, wait the extra time for the restaurant next door as it took just as long to get an order of nachos out. Read the rest of the reviews, consider yourself warned.

This is a very good authentic Mexican restaurant. Organic items, which are more expensive, quality items, which are more expensive. You get what you pay for. You want loads of mediocre food, go to a chain restaurant. I would defiantly go back.

Do not come on a week day!!!! No one speaks English, owners suck, and food is subpar!

Just terrible... The waitress obviously forgot to put my order in, hid from my table for about 20 minutes and then blamed it on a busy day, there were 3 tables in the restaurant!!! I asked for chicken quesadillas, she forgot the chicken- they sucked anyway and they claim to be authentic, this couldn't Even pass for authentic tex mex, worst lunch ever- so upset!

  • Leigh M.

I didn't love this place. It was just "eh" all the way around, right down to the service. Tables are tiny and portions are on the smaller side as well. I found the prices to be high, and not enough vegetarian options. I asked if I could have a plate of just rice and beans, but for some reason, they wouldn't let me order that because it technically wasn't on the menu. When I ha trouble deciphering what was what on be menu, the waiter did not go out of his way to help me figure it out, just stared at me impatiently as he held his pen and pad in a "I'm ready when you are" way.

I would have expected this exact same food from a big chain mexican restaurant. The food was bland and really mediocre. I actually did kind of like black beans, they were bland, but the texture was creamy . If you like your Mexican food overpriced and made by gringos, this might be the place for you.

  • Brooke S.

I'm torn between 3-4 stars for Blue Tortilla. The food was good, but not out of this world, and it's so strange that it would be BYOB. A little awkward even, in my opinion. The margaritas they serve are very weak, so it's really like you're just drinking margarita mix, but again, in my opinion. I will say the gluten free chips and red and green salsa were really good. I had the chicken tinga, which was tasty, but I wasn't a fan of my friend's chicken pumpkin spiced dish. It's in a nice area though, so on a beautiful day I would return for a Mexican fix.

I was excited to try The Blue Tortilla since I always pass it in New Hope but had never stopped. My brother and I decided to stop in on a beautiful day for lunch. There were only two couples out on the patio so we got to choose any seat. There is no water views here. If you want to sit on the water then the landing restaurant is delicious and right next door. The service at a The Blue Tortilla was pleasant but a bit on the slow side for everything despite the place being empty. The menu isn't very big and the prices are a bit high for what you get. My brother paid $12.95 for a basket of chips, salsa and guacamole. Everyone passing commented on the chips. They are delicious but not cheap! The guacamole and salsa was delicious and this is probably the only thing I would come bac for. However for the price I would definitely have to think about it. I got the crispy chicken tacos. They were good but definitely not out of this world and certainly not worth the $17 I paid. Three rolled up chicken tacos with some lettuce on top, a side of beans and a side of rice. Rice and beans were bland. All in all it was an okay experience but I probably wouldn't come back. There's other places in new hope with cheaper prices, better food and better views.

Don't go here. The food is mediocre & the service is slow. We went on a FRIDAY night there were only 3 tables taken & the rest of the restaurant EMPTY. Asked if we had a reservation. For real? The only thing we really liked were the chips & pico de gallo. SO if you want chips & salsa this is ok place to go to - otherwise try El Tule in Lambertville.....it's a million times better.

Went here on a cold night with kids the restaurant was empty and the lady only had 2 high chairs! We didn't feel very welcomed from her attitude seemed like she didn't want us there because of the kids! When we said we're leaving it was almost like she was kicking us out! Thank god we didn't dine here...god only knows how our food would be with such attitude!!!

For a restaurant in a tourist area, this place was very disappointing. Despite some of the other reviews, it really isn't very authentic. I don't think that muenster cheese and sour cream in the guacamole is very authentic. and when they add cheese...they really add cheese. it becomes the whole meal. its byob, which is always nice, but it is also BYOC...bring your own coffee. what restaurant doesn't serve coffee? I had the steak taco which was ok, except for all of the cheese. my bf had the crispy chicken tacos and could barely find the taco underneath all of the lettuce and salad. the wait staff was ok. I don't think i would go back there again. and it was $50 for two entree's. the meal was worth about $20.

This is a review of two different stories. The food is 4-star but the staff and service is 1-star. We went for dinner on a busy summer night. When we walked up (Party of 4) and saw some seats, the clueless person at the front said nothing is available, only 2 seat tables. We asked to give our name, and he said it is just first come first serve, so we should hang on the sidewalk and wait to see what opens!?!? What appeared to be the owner came up and asked a recently seated party of two to move - as they were at a 4-person table. Finally we sit. To summarize the service --- long waits for the menus, long waits for them to ask what we would like to order (so we ordered drinks and the main course at the same time), and finally when we asked to package some food to bring home, thy forgot and it took 15 minutes to get it back. The food is good, not great. Nachos on the appetizer were very good, so fresh and tasty with fewer ingredients than most nacho dishes. I had a chicken dish with potatoes, peppers, onions, and a red sauce (like a stew) along with refried beans, tomatoes and fresh tortillas. My family enjoyed their food as well. The food did not come close to making up for the poor, somewhat incompetent service. I went here for lunch about 4-5 years ago an recall it much more favorable. They should not be hiring young kids (this was the problem IMHO) and instead hire great staff, since the location is so awesome.

Wasn't disappointed. Ordered chips and salsa, wasn't bummed to pay for them a la carte at under $2. I do see why other reviewers would expect the chips to be included; I think this is the first time I've paid for chips at a Mexican place... Anyway, $2 was reasonable. The food took a bit long but I told myself it was probably fresh and worth the wait and it was both. Sitting outside, there's plenty to look at as people are constantly walking by and cars and bikes are parking. It's more entertaining than you might think if you like to observe people in general. We ate two of the enchilada dishes. Outstanding, fresh, authentic. The chicken in my enchiladas verde was perfectly cooked, like it was slow roasted. Thought it was cool that you can buy margarita mix there to complement its byo policy. Service was good.

Stopped in on the 12th for a bite to eat on a beautiful day in New Hope. To say i was disappointed is an understatement. To charge for a basket of deep fried tortillas is a sham and a scam. First time I have ever paid for these. Our food was mediocre at best and when the waiter asked how was everything my attempt to tell him was meet with a chuckle and a disinterested grin then a walk away. No attempt to ask any questions as to what was not satisfactory. I though it was quite expensive especially for what it is. Mexican. $45.00 for two for the meal we got ABSURD.

It is possibly the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The service was left up to the not-so-capable hands of high school kids. Our food took forever to come, and I literally saw the waiter spray cleaning solution all over clean plates while setting up a table for the next patron. The salad I got could have been made by my 10 year old nephew and my husband's pork platter tasted like an old kitchen rag. I regret not asking for my money back.

Just had lunch with my wife. I was really looking forward to good Mexican food. The food was OK, but I thought it was very expensive and my wife's meal tasted more like an Italian meal Han a Mexican dish. Lots of tomato sauce overpowered any other taste. I had the guacamole and it was OK. For $12 I thought it was expensive for what I got. I also had the tortilla soup whic was very good. Overall, the food was good, the service was very good and the value was poor. I would probably not recommend it to anyone else or go back.

I came up last weekend to check out New Hope and Lambertville. I heard they were cute and funky river towns. After perusing the city it became lunch time, and the Blue Tortilla looked good. Often as a vegetarian, Mexican food is a great choice cause you can always get a veggie burrito or something. We walked in on a Sunday afternoon and we were a party of 6. They sat us right away and in small private dining area. Which I liked cause it meant we could be loud and chat away. Drinks: They offer Margs although I didnt not try them. I got their regular black ice tea and waitress (Lila) kept them coming which I LOVE. My BF got the Jamaican Hibiscus ice tea and I tried it and it was yum yum. We got some guacamole for the table (I didnt like it as all bleh) and she brought some Salsas out. The dark red Salsa was killer yummy! I ordered the veggie enchiladas with the Verde sauce and a Portabello mushroom in it. I liked it very much and my BF got the onion and pepper enchilada with the red chile sauce. He ate his whole plate and almost licked it. Everyone else in my party with one exception of the steak salad liked their food. I also had a moment to chat with the manager/owner? after we were done. I was getting some change for the meter. I mentioned everything was great and that Lila was great. He was very sincere in his thank you and wishing us to come back soon. I loved New Hope and I will be back, and when I do ill eat at Blue Tortilla Restaurant.

Ended up in New Hope a few weeks back and needed a good place to eat that wouldn't break the bank and provided more than bar food or pretend gourmet cuisine. Found the Blue Tortilla Restaurant by chance and was very pleased with the food, service and $$$. The waitress was extremely friendly and knowledgeable on both the menu and the surrounding area - able to provide suggestions on evening activities for after dinner. And although the Blue Tortilla does not have a bar if you order a Margarita they provide a shot of tequila on the house. If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine and happen to be in the New Hope area you must stop here.

If not for the service I would give this place 4 stars. After having just left Mother's for the slow service and now very hungry, I asked some diners for their opinion before committing. Great food but slow service, they said. Right they were. The mole sauce is the best I have had in a long while. The Mexican salad was very good with honey lime dressing. And all the tortillas are all corn. But, I was given no salt/pepper to have with my salad. Waited quite a while to get it. Ditto on request for hot sauce. I finally went inside (we sat outside) and found hot sauce and S&P on all the tables. Then one server just stared at me holding an empty glass of water until I asked for a refill. If these aren't the regular staff, they need better training. If they are regulars, can 'em.

The Blue Tortilla was recommended by a friend of mine. We traveled up to New Hope, PA for lunch one day. Braving the massive traffic jams, we finally made our destination. Was it worth the trip? Yes and no. The food, I will say, is quite good. It's not the best Mexican food I've had. But there's no denying that the food here is really good. The chips were quite unique. Much thicker than most places chips, with only a hint of salt. But it pairs fantastically with their guacamole as well as their (very rich and deep flavored) mole sauce. The food came out very hot (which I loved). I had two chicken enchiladas in their tomato sauce, while my wife had the Picaditas (deep fried tortillas topped with steak, lettuce, tomato and cheese). Both dishes came with Mexican rice. I had the refried beans while she had black beans. Everything was very good. Just the right portion size for our lunch. I'll start with the enchiladas. The tomato sauce was rich without being overly salty. The chicken was tender and the enchilada was filled with it. The rice was cooked well and had some nice spices. The refried beans were good as well, but I've had better at other restaurants. Nothing to complain about, but I prefer the way they are made elsewhere. My wife's steak was perfectly cooked and very tender. The Picaditas as a whole were very good. The only real downfalls to this place is the price and relatively small menu. Most places will give complimentary tortilla chips and salsa, but here they charge. Also, I found the prices for the entrees a bit high compared to other Mexican restaurants. The food is quite good, but overall, not a stand out. I can't imagine going out of my way to come back (as you need to factor parking into the price of your meal). But if I'm in the area and craving Mexican food, I would definitely visit again. Would give 3.5 stars if the site allowed it.

I've eaten at the blue tortilla many times over the years. So yesterday, when we needed a place for dinner, I was comfortable recommending it to the people I was with. Well, we ate there. The food was unremarkable. Totally edible, tasted good, but unremarkable. The only thing remarkable was the prices. My son got two tacos for $17. They were about five bites of food each. We had to get him another meal. They need to be of greater value before I could eat there again.

The food was OK, it was tasty and service was fine HOWEVER: i ordered the salmon special, it was 20 dollars and huge pile of rice and four little squares of salmon Pay 20 bucks for a huge pile of rice? I did talk to water and hope they improve this

Used to think this restaurant was fantastic...In fact, thought it was so good that my fiance and I wanted to have our rehearsal dinner there. We had called about 6 months in advanced and were assured that it would be no problem, with a group of only 20 all we needed to do was call about a month ahead of time and make a regular reservation. So a month before the wedding, called to make the reservation and were informed that they don't take reservations and would not accommodate our group. What?! Now we are scrambling last minute to find somewhere else to go. Very surprised they were not interested in being even slightly accommodating for a profitable large group. I'm not sure if the person I initially talked to just didn't know what she was talking about or they changed their mind, but either way it's ridiculous.

The food at Blue Tortilla is OK. I had the Mexican Style Shrimp, which was kind of spicy and the shrimp was cooked well. The guacamole was dull and lacked any oomph. I did enjoy the chipotle salsa and ate all of it. The real kicker was the pricing, though. One kid's meal and two entrees with two non-alcoholic drinks (the place is BYOB) cost me $70. On an non-food related subject, the men's room is so cramped and small, I could touch both walls with my shoulders. As I was in there, the automatic air-freshener sprayed me in the chest. Really. Not cool. I will most likely not return, mostly because of the prices.

Being born and raised in California, iv'e tried real Authentic Mexican food. This restaurant is Authentic with a twist of Organic! Surprised by the flavor and kick of the Salsa and the cool, lightly sour from the Guacamole left me in a good state, I ordered the Carne Asada Tacos, A dish i'm very familiar with from home. The dish came with a Romaine lettuce salad with a delicious vinaigrette, Spanish rice, and Beans. The tacos impressed me the most, made with home made tortillas, with diced onions, and Carne Asada (marinated steak pieces), This bite from the taco reminded me of home so much. Mostly organic Spanish restaurants lack the Spanish taste, Blue Tortilla has kept the Spanish in their meal no matter how organic. The Chefs and Staff were excellent.

My husband and I saw reviews... We love mexican... So we decided to try it out, we had the guacamole with chips and other sauces as a starter which was really, really good! My husband is obsessed with guacamole and this was excellent. I had the enquillada oakaquiala (something loke that) which had a very nice flavor to it; $16. My husband got the Arrachera Steak which he liked a lot; $19. I thought the price was pretty steep but we sat outside in the corner towards the bridge so the view was nice. They also let us sit with out 3 month old Puppy! The service was very nice and all went well... :) my 3 star is bc of price mostly... The menu is pretty limited too... I went in wanting a Chimichanga ....which they do not make :(

I am kicking myself for not reading the reviews before sitting down to eat here today for lunch. Please read this clearly - HANDS DOWN WORST RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! If i could give them 0 stars, I would. This was my first time visiting thevery charming + cute town of New Hope... How could a resteraunt in this kind of town with so many people walking around be so brutal? Where do I begin? First, my boyfriend and I were excited... we both love mexican food! We went inside and sat down after having to attract the attention of seemingly "chatty kathy" teens who were running the place. I then went to the ladies room, where there was a sign asking to please throw away toilet paper instead of flushing it, as the plumbing in the building was old............ um, gross?! You are a business owner - invest money to have new plumbing installed! Next, our waitress has a horrible attitude and more or less mumbled the specials to us as she walked away. Okay, Okay...... we let these things slide for now... after all, we were hungry and cold from walking around all day! Next, she brings out our beverages.... we ordered 2 cokes. She brings out 2 cans of cola............ $2.25 each. Hm. I could buy a 2 liter of soda for less than that. Also, NO complimentary chips + salsa....... which i've never even heard of in any mexican restaurant. Instead, they want to charge you +$13 for guacamole! Clearly the owner is in this business for money, not to satisfiy customers or build a good reputation. Finally, our food arrives. I ordered the Enchiladas de la abuela. The portions seemed fine, however the enchiladas were drowning in tomato sauce and the dish was cold. My entire dish was now soggy from tomato sauce! Okay... maybe i could just eat the beans and rice and be satisfied. NOPE! They had zero flavor and were also cold. Knowing that this meal was almost $20, I was pretty bummed. Taco Bell would have been better. Throughout our entire horrible experience, our waitress never came up to us to ask how our food was. However, after we paid (we didn't want to cause any trouble, we just wanted to get the hell out!) she didn't even wait for us to leave before she grabbed our receipt AND her tip from the table! Talk about RUDE! This place was empty and she more-or-less hurried us out the door! We were so bummed out that it completely ruined our day trip to New Hope and we went home immediately after eating here. I never write yelp reviews, but I was so dissappointed today that I hope this this will help someone in the future not waste their time or money here!

Barely got past the menu. $3 for a bowl of average tortilla chips. My wife & I were recently in New Hope for a wedding, and stopped into the Blue Tortilla for lunch. Every where I looked on the menu, there was something that nearly made me leave. From the $3.00 bowl of store-bought tortilla chips to the "minimum" charge per person, everything about the place screamed 'tourist trap rip off.' The food was decent, but certainly not authentic. I'd call it inspired by Mexican food.

Tasteless, expensive food. We ordered tacos and chicken mole, they were expensive and bad. This has left a bad memory of an otherwise nice day in New Hope.

Do yourself a favor go some place else , I read the neg reviews and I went anyway how stupid was that . from now on I'm paying attention to the yelp reviews , when my friend got his shrimp dish with a long hair coming out of the sauce it turned my stomach .Everyone's meals were terrible, too many neg things to mention about the food , Wawa has better tasting Mexican food . Seriously avoid this place , they offered us free deserts to make it up to us , we all declined . Now I know why the place next door had a 45min wait and this place was empty , learn from our mistake ... you were warned !!! I don't know how they stay in business . On a positive note... the waitress was nice the whole time I felt bad for her.

Visited last night with my wife and we both left disappointed. Surprised you had to pay for chips and salsa, but wouldn't mind if was above average. The chicken soup was really good, but out pork tortillas were bland and contained about an ounce of pork between our four combined. It seemed it was just brushed on the shell before they were wrapped. WAY overpriced. Service was prompt and polite. Doubtful we'll return - much better Mexican alternative just a short walk away.

The people who gave this little eatery less than 4 stars clearly don't get it. My family and I went in there off the street and were similarly startled by the prices, but *HOLY CRAP* the food was worth every penny. Here's my take: if you want value - go to Taco Bell. If you want an authentic, home-cooked meal straight from a little old lady's kitchen in Mazatlan, check out the Blue Tortilla. (It's cheaper than the plane ticket. Guaranteed.) We had everything from the Enchilada Verde to the sublime molé. The food was simple, subtle and impeccably prepared. The service, provided by one of the owners, was gracious and attentive. This is one of the best meals I've had in long time and though we live hundreds of miles away, we will be back. It's just a matter of when. In the meantime, please eat here and keep this place open.

Most excellent pico de gallo bathed in lime. I ordered it extra hot and the flavors of fresh jersey tomatoes and cilantro and onion and jalapeño bathed in lime juice. I could go home now. The Enchiladas Verdes were small but very delicious. My wife, however, was not happy with the Mexican Salad. Left us basically unimpressed for price and so only three stars.

I'd been curious about this restaurant for a while and my partner and I finally decided to give it a try. The first thing to note is that the prices are absolutely ridiculous. To charge $12.95 for four small tortillas and approximately one half an inch of Muenster cheese and some crumbles of chorizo is ludicrous, but that is Blue Tortilla's Chorriqueso appetizer. Had we known the quantity of food one gets for the amount it cost, we would have skipped this restaurant altogether. We ordered the Enchiladas Verdes and the Chicken Flautas for our main course. Each dish was $16.95 and came with a whopping two flautas and two enchiladas of minimal size, with a decent-sized amount of refried black beans and a small amount of Mexican rice on the side. The food really was delicious and everything was fresh and tasted so. I have no complaints with the food quality. But for the price and quantity, it's absolutely not worth it.

  • I R.

I just can't get past $13.95 for a small cup, a ONE cup cup-- 1 avacado's worth of guacamole!!! WTF!!! Really????? Can't really say I knew it because ordering the chips and dip was an afterthought after the menus were collected. It was sticker shock on the bill. Lunch. 3 people. Normal orders, drinks were 1 ice tea and 2 waters, 1 meal apiece and the chips and dip. $62!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok my fault entirely but come on..... that's excessive. It wasn't exceptional in any way, ok it came with salsa. Big deal. Most places offer that and the chips free. And NO the chips were not home made like Lily's Cafe Americana. $1.50 worth of food for $14. More money than brains department. Nothing makes up for that price gouging. Ok,Cantina Feliz gives 3 times as much for less than $10. Las Margaritas charges $4.95 and both are equally good. No excuses, no reasons, but man oh man, that's just not right. Food was good. Presentation was ok. Decor was ok, nothing exceptional at all. And what's with the sign in the loo not to put toilet paper in the toilet. Isn't that a health code violation and aromatic nightmare????? 2 stars because the chicken enchiladas mole was good. Not great, but decently good with a nice presentation so a good effort. Simple and tasty. You guessed it..... It doesn't matter how good the rest of the meal was, $14 bucks for guac ruined it. Won't go back. Too many other good restaurants around that won't say F you, pay or go. Good for groups? Only if you don't care that lunch might cost $14 for $1.50 worth of food. Does anything matter after that?

I should have known better. But, the town of New Hope seems drenched in money and decent taste, so I reluctantly sat down for dinner here. The place is called Blue Tortilla and claims to be authentic, so I had at least a promise to look forward to. First, I opened the menu to see what looked like great offerings, only to be disappointed by the astronomical prices. Ok, it's a tourist trap, so I'll let that slide. Second, we order the $12 guacamole...this had better be good. This shouldn't even be called guacamole. Half of it was rough chopped tomato, there wasn't even a hint of lime or salt, AND they added cheese (not acceptable). A few minutes later the-watered down, sad excuse for a guacamole was completely sh*t-colored brown and now also disgusting to look at. Finally, the menu says to order pork because it's their specialty, and that they have home-made corn tortillas. A chance to redeem themselves! I order the pork tacos. They look good, but it's all show. They're flavorless and dry and the rice and beans are utterly unremarkable. The salsas on the table were equally bland and mild, offering little-to-nothing to solve the flavor issue. Maybe a few Mexican beers would have done the trick, or even a Margarita--this is authentic, right?--but alas, no alcohol on the premises. The three of us soberly paid $85 for our meal and left feeling robbed and confused; the place doesn't even USE blue corn.

Went to New Hope after touring prospective schools in the area, and decided to try out the Blue Tortilla. When you first walk into the restaurant, it's a bit confusing, because there's no host(ess) at the door, and you get the vibe you aren't supposed to seat yourself. So you walk to the back...? Okay, fine. We walk to the very back of the store, where a waitress is singing to herself, very busy. When we greeted her, expecting a response as well as a table. After thirty seconds with zero response, we go ahead and seat ourselves. But we don't judge a book by its cover. Another waitress eventually comes to greet us and bring us the menus. I pick up the menus, and.... WHAT?! The chips and guacamole appetizer is $12. Twelve dollars! After getting over this shock, we order without incident. A minute or two though, the waitress comes back, and without apology, tells my dining partner they are out of his order. After re-ordering and waiting roughly half-an-hour for our food (during which time several patrons ask the waitress to close the door to the restaurant because it is about 50 degrees outside), our food arrives. And this is where this restaurant earns its ridiculous price. The food was absolutely delicious. I polished off my plate in about a tenth of the time it took to arrive. I won't bore you with the details of how the sweet but clueless waitress gave me, a thirteen year old, the check personally as if she expected me to pay, or a few other details of the awful service. In summary, the atmosphere and service earn a two and one, respectively, but the food almost makes up for both. Almost.

I really have no idea how anyone can give this place a bad rating. The Blue Tortilla is hands down, the best Mexican spot in the state. The owner is super nice and efficient. The servers are great. And the food, oh the food is amazing. The first time I ate here, my friend and I had several foodgasms throughout the meal. Though, It is pretty pricey, about $16 for an entrée around $12 for their ridiculously tasty guacamole, chipotle, and tomatillo salsa appetizer. Also, get the hibiscus tea. My favorite dish is the Flautas de Pollo. Soooo good! The flan is also super yummy. Tip: Go on a nice warm day and eat outside :)

Although I can't exactly delve into the tastiness, or lack thereof, of this restaurants dishes, I can reveal to you the magic behind receiving alcohol from this BYOB. But before I do so, I would like to say the nachos and salsa were above average. Now, like I was saying, about the alcohol... For some odd reason, that you won't find me arguing with, this place is able to (or simply just does because they are hardcore) serve you a hefty shot of tequila in an itty bitty potion-like bottle alongside of their house made margarita mix upon request. It is your job from here to mix the two together if you so choose, or take the shot and sip the mix... whatever! If anyone knows the loophole that exists to make this miracle possible, please, keep it to yourself. I'd prefer to go on thinking the Blue Tortilla is hood like that.

My wife planned an eventful day in New Hope on Fathers Day. After the Ivyland Train event, we were in the mood for Mexican. We chose Blue Tortilla over Taco Loco because we thought our son preferred to sit outside. Service was pretty good. The chicken mole enchiladas were amazing. My wife had the enchiladas with the grandmothers sauce. To me it tasted like pasta sauce on an enchilada. She thought it was ok and it was something different. They had a kids menu which is always a plus. The main negative of this place is the price. For each enchiladas plate it was $16 and only 2 come in the dish! My sons plate was $11 for shredded chicken and plain Mexican rice! In total it cost us $60 for lunch....I do recommend this place but not all the time as you will end up going broke :)

I grew up in California. I'm a major foodie and cook. I know what good Mexican food tastes like. I can't believe all the people writing that Blue Tortilla is terrible. It is the BEST Mexican restaurant I have been to in the 18 years I have lived in the Philadelphia area. Everything is fresh and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the chicken tostadas. Of course this place isn't cheap. It is New Hope. New Hope is a tourist destination. The rents are high. This restaurant is on the main drag. But aside from that quality ingredients aren't cheap. You get what you pay for. The people who own and run this restaurant are Mexican- they know what they are doing. Everything is fresh. The reviewers dogging Blue Tortilla sound like the people who were knocking Cafe Soho and Bon Chon Korean fried chicken on Chowhound. Then guess what? Cafe Soho was awarded the best Fried Chicken from Philly magazine. Anyway if you want good quality Mexican Food and don't mind paying for it - go to Blue Tortilla. Remember folks New Hope= tourist destination so stop whining about a long wait if you go when there are lots of people ( like on a nice sunny day on the Weekend).

Fantastic!!! We live in Manhattan and we don't get this good Mexican food. Not sure if the place has gotten better recently but it confuses me why I has three stars after more than 50 reviews. Any way, really good food. Try Mayan pork and Red pork. And you MUST have Impossible Cake to close it out. Great food, nice service. Overall money well spent.

The guacamole is good and we ordered it as an appetizer but the meal went down hill from there. e split a ceasar salad and it was just fair. I ordered the fish tacos and got a meal that I would expected from my local mexican fast food place. My dining partner had the pork dish and was not that impressed with the salty dish. We choose to eat outside and were bothered by little aphids and gnats flying around and landing on the food dishes. My recommendation is to walk straight past this place and go to the Landing Restaraunt right next door - a comparable meal will be cheaper and better (as we ate there the week before and had a much better meal).

We enjoyed a meal here with our little one and another couple. Delicious food! I eat "real" Mexican and I definitely think it is comparable. It is slightly more expensive than you might find elsewhere, but the food was delicious and worth it. Considering the area (pricey) and the location (hard to source the ingredients I would imagine), the prices were not a surprise. The service was excellent. It appeared that the owner was the one who was waiting tables. He was very prompt, friendly, and cared about our experience. He informed us right away it was BYOB -- I'm assuming it's a local law of some sort. There was a large party towards the back and they were happy and relaxed. Our son did ok, but petered out quickly. Luckily we could play in front of the store while the rest of our group finished up. It was a great choice and we will be back if we go through the area again.

I really enjoyed lunch at the Blue Tortilla yesterday. As close to authentic Mexican food that you can get in the Northeast. Service was friendly and extremely fast. Presentation was superb. Taste was excellent. It's a BYOB, and had we been there for dinner we would have taken advantage of the free margaritas, so that completely explains the pricey dinner menu.

I've dined in LA, NY, ciudad de mx, etc. the dude who could not get over the $3 chips really cheated himself out of the exquisite flavors the chef perhaps the owner delivered the night i dined there. the pork dishes were sublime and represented true mexican flavors that i can attest to. from the achiote of the Mayan, (portion little smaller than i would normally like)the liveliness of the tomatillo salsa. It's the first place i've seen in the area that makes heir own tortilla!!!! i can assure all that this place does not compromise on the quality of its ingredients. many folks might have expected a punch of jalapeno but i think the owner was trying to elevate the senses of the diners by introducing a more delicate but true and relatively unknown side of Mexican cuisine. the area might not be ready for a such an out of the box Mexican but i would encourage all to come indulge something unique and original for the folks at blue tortilla seem to display a love and care for the thoughtful dishes. They just need a little more fine tuning on the service, ( i was greeted 4 times and asked how many in my party) but these kind of growing pains can be expected by folks that just want deliver good food to good folks. The unique and exquisite flavors have won over than shortcomings for me. i hope you will enjoy as i di.

Eeks! We paid $50 for the smallest portion of average food I have ever had. Let there be no doubt: The Blue Tortilla da poco por mucho (gives little for a lot) and I don't care if the guac is good or not: Mine is too, but it costs a whole lot less. There is just too much of a disjuncture between the quanity, quality and price at this restaurant to merit it more than two stars, despite the lovely location.

This place is pretty good for the area. There's not a whole lot around here, except for a train that apparently goes back and forth like 15 times a day. The food was good, if a little bit expensive. I had the tortillas verdes which were pretty tasty. But I recommend the pork dish, instead of what I got. My dining companions were better than the actual food, especially the redhead. Overall, this place was an average mexican place for a large city. But in this area, it's not bad eats. Points off for no beers with the good. A Negro Modelo would have been delicious.

Very disappointing. Very expensive for mediocre food. My friends and I decided to try this place. We sat down and saw the prices on the menu. We figured they must offer big portions for the prices they were charging (and we're from the NYC area! HOW NAIVE we were!). We decided to order the nachos (priced at $13) and order more if he were still hungry. Then we noticed the $10 minimum per person notice at the bottom of the menu. That left us with a bad taste in our mouth before we even got the food. The nachos were barely enough for two people. And why use Parmesan cheese? We were still hungry. My friends ordered the quesadilla app ($16 I believe) and I ordered the quesadilla with guacamole ($17). We could have gotten more authentic Mexican food from Taco Bell. Very bland. I also noticed that the lettuce and tomatoes on my plate had Italian dressing on them. Was this Italian-Mexican fusion? Do not let the cute atmosphere suck you in. KEEP WALKING!!!

They were very nice and the salsa was delicious but the food was otherwise only average.

We've been here several times and I think this place is great. Not sure what that one-star business is about down at the bottom of the page. They have vegetarian and vegan options and the atmosphere is cozy and homey. That said, it can get crowded, so if you don't like that, come on the off-hours. The service can also be slow because everything is made from scratch; we usually order an appetizer and graze on that while they prepare our meals. The prices are higher than I would like, but not exorbitant. A nice place for a treat or a celebration.

We loved this place. I was skeptical about the name, as blue corn is usually associated with Southwestern cuisine, but we were hopeful. We didn't know what "free tequila if you didn't bring your own" meant, as it's a BYOB establishment. So we went searching for a place which sold beer or tequila to take back (Villa Vito's worked--we got a cold 6-pack of Landshark to go). There are 3 rooms indoors (one narrow room on the side, a medium-small room in the center, and a front room with 7 tables) as well as a patio outside. Upon seating there was one other table of 4. Apparently, 2-3 of the adults there had NEVER eaten Mexican food before; possibly one had Tex-Mex while in Arizona (that would be Southwestern cuisine, but I digress)? Who has never even had (disgusting) Taco Bell, Chili's, or some other form of faux Mexican ever before? Culture shock yet again--how was I to know that the midwest is more culinarily diverse than the east coast? The prices are high--$20 for most entrees ($17 at lunchtime), $12 for guacamole. We decided to split a guacamole, which comes with fresh chips, home made tortillas, 2 salsas (chipotle and tomatillo), and fresh guacamole. The homemade tortillas were excellent and we finished off all of the chips and most of the tortillas before the entree arrived. For our split entree, we decided to split a pork salsa verde--the pork was fork tender. It was served with a single jalapeno pepper in the sauce. A tad salty, but that was fine. Jim even ate all of the black beans and rice (neither of us are bean fans). When the food was gone but there was still sauce on the plate we tore off more pieces of tortilla to sop of the remaining salsa verde. YUM. We overstuffed ourselves, then ordered a tres leches for dessert, and stuffed ourselves further. Then there are the margaritas. Served with a complimentary 2oz bottle of tequila, on the side, for you to serve yourself. Technically, no more than 1 per person, $5 each. We had 3. We will be definitely be going back, as the food was fresh and delicious. I would have preferred it spicier. We asked for medium (it's made non-spicy for the locals, something the waiter had to repeat to each table coming in). Next time, we'll ask for it to be spicy/medium-hot. Very friendly service. We took home a jar of mole ($6, vegetarian) and a small stack of their tortillas; seriously, if you have never had fresh tortillas, you need to try some. For breakfast, we warmed the tortillas and the mole to serve with eggs. The mole was very good--wasn't sweet (like some places which seem to melt Hershey bars into it), did have a good balance of chiles, and flavoured the eggs well. $70 for 2 including tax, tip, and mole to go. So yes, it was pricey, but damned good and we overstuffed ourselves because it was so good. We needed to walk around for a few minutes in the rain because our bellies were so full. Needless to say, we slept very well last night. (BTW: burritos as big as your head or as we know them are not authentic Mexican fare; I don't recall them being offered at most taquerias in Chicago, but most California taquerias did have them: marcsala.blogspot.com/20… )

This place gives Mexican Restaurants a really bad name. The decor and atmosphere is fun but the food is just mediocre. I enjoy Mexican food restaurants that serve up complimentary baskets of tortillas and large portions. This place had neither. A basket of tortillas and salsa cost around $3! They did not have a wide variety of food selections. It was fairly expensive and the portions were only medium sized. For $12+ a plate I want so much food a doggy - bag is necessary. I would never go back or suggest anyone else does. Instead cross over into New Jersey, and only a few miles away there is one of the best Mexican food restaurants I have ever eaten at: Tortuga's at 11 1/2 Church St, Lambertville, NJ 08530 - (609) 397-7272 The location is down an alley - way, the atmosphere is low - key, and the food is amazing.

Good food, with friendly staff. We had chicken mole and carne asada, which were both very good. Haven't had to pay for chips n salsa before, but I guess it was worth the $5. This I guess is due to the area being a tourist trap. This also explains the prices, which are a little high for the type of food, but still a good meal and experience none the less.

My two initial experiences at Blue Tortilla were very good. The food is truly authentic Mexican. None of that Chi-Chi's, On the Border stuff here. And you pay for it. But my opinion changed with the last visit. We were turned away because they were "closed" at 8 p.m. on a Saturday (I believe they're usually open until 9). The restaurant was about three-quarters full and it looked like several people hadn't even received their food. But we were turned away because they were "closed." We were absolutely stunned. I haven't gone back yet and don't plan to. If there was some reason they decided to close unexpectedly, they should have at least provided an explanation, rather than making us feel like they didn't want us there.

This is a good Mexican spot on the cute main street of New Hope. Their portions are generous and well priced, plus they have to have the best guac around. Also delicious: refried beans. Yum! I don't know what they put in it them but I could not get enough. The only thing I didn't care for were the tortillas, which tasted a little rubbery. But overall my friends and I were very satisfied.

Simply excellent Mexican food. The Mayan pork was just fantastic and flavorful. And Enrique's impossible cake was decadent. Love love love.

My husband and I always have a good time eating a Blue Tortilla, especially on a nice day so we can eat outside. The guacamole is fabulous as is the mole sauce. The service is very good, too. If the chicken in the chicken mole was a little more tender, I'd give it 5 stars. This is really a gem in New Hope. I'm a huge fan.

We were told from the start that the dishes were fairly mild and that we could ask for more spice if we wanted - I did not expect that to mean flavorless. The $13 guacamole was extremely mild - I mixed it with the chipolte sauce and squeezed in my own lime juice from the slice that came with my water. That made it great, but I didn't expect to have to season my own food. I had the pork salsa verde and my husband had the chicken mole. The mole sauce was great but everything else was just "meh". If the service would have been better I'd give three stars.

The Blue Tortilla is an authentic Mexican restaurant located on North Main Street in New Hope. The restaurant is pretty small without a whole lot of seating, but in the warmer months alfresco dining makes for more seating. The menu was extensive, offering various authentic appetizers and entrees. My friend and I started with the guacamole, which they claim is the best on this side of the border. Was it the best? I don't know, but no doubt, it was good! I had some sort of vegetarian burrito, filled with fresh sauteed veggies and other good stuff with rojo sauce and cheese on top. Very satisfying. My friend had a enchilada with mole sauce, which he really seemed to enjoy. Overall, good food, less than great prices, and decent service considering the crowd. No liquor license, but if you buy a virgin - Margarita that is - they'll supply you with those tiny little bottles of Tequila at no extra charge. Sweet deal.

I was surprised how low people's reviews were of this place because bf and I thought the food was very good. I had the Picaditas Cochinitas Pidil. The pork was a little dry but it absorbed all the flavors from the surrounding sauce. He also had a pork dish - Puerco costeno which he enjoyed. I didn't like paying for the nachos and salsa but they were homemade. I was curious as to why the guacamole was $12 but I wasn't going to pay for it to get the taste. I like to think my guacamole is just as good. The total was about $60 for both. I do take off 1 star because of the price.

If you take nothing else away from Yelp on this visit, please let it be this: The Blue Tortilla is the worst restaurant within 50 miles. I am not exaggerating. Not only is the food awful, as in "inedible", but it is so ridiculously overpriced that I actually left in a really bad mood. It's been two years and I'm still mad, that's how breathtakingly awful this restaurant is. If you want excellent Mexican food, go over the bridge into Lambertville. Tortuga's is amazing, authentic and you won't be disappointed.

The mole enchiladas were world class, but the handmade tortillas (that should have been amazing) tasted like warm cardboard. Every entrée was $13 or more, which we all found expensive.

Kind of expensive but, if you can get over the price its pretty good. Its a small place, we went on a really hot summer day and either they don't have air conditioning or it broke but luckily we were seated near a fan. I got the enchiladas verde and my husband got something with pork (can't remember exactly what it was). Our food was authentic and good. We liked their salsa (you can buy it to take home too). We also tried their homemade hibiscus iced tea (good but kind of expensive-I think it was around $4 for one glass!) Good food but needless to say we haven't been back since our lunch date there which cost around $45.

Eat there at your own risk. I ate lunch there and restaurant was empty. Waitress was nowhere to be found. I walked in the kitchen and right at the entrance saw about 10 cooked chicken breasts with flies all over them. They were not refrigerated probably because owners too cheap or it is easier for them to shred meat at room temperature. Food is way to expensive. Food usually 20% of total dish cost. At this place is probably less than 5. How much few few pieces of shredded chicken wrapped in tortilla and splashed with some sauce can cost them and they charge $16 for it. And can't even give you salsa and chips at such rip off prices. They don't even cook food to order. We got our orders in 5 minutes. Totally not worth it and unsanitary food storage.

First the prices at this Restaurant are ridiculously expensive for what you get (authentic or not $15.00 for a taco is ridiculous). I still don't understand why people walking by the Restaurant can have complimentary chips and salsa but if your a paying customer it costs $3.00 for chips and then another couple of dollars for the salsa. then I decided to pay an extra $1.50 for the special muenster cheese on my pork tacos and I am still looking for it (specialty of the house) The food was so dry my wife's quesadilla actually asked us for a drink. My tacos consisted of about 12 of the tiniest pieces of pork and I am like I said I am still looking for the cheese. Got about 2 spoonfuls of beans and another 2 spoonfuls of rice. The place was decorated nice and was cool but jeez $5.00 just for the chips and salsa with tacos at about $15.00 please. This is a one and done for us. Additionally as we were eating our server came over no less than 4 times to ask if we were done. At the end of the day this is the type of over priced tourist trap that is killing New Hope's reputation. Just think chips, salsa, a quesidillia, 2 tacos, a diet coke, and an ice tea (BTW bring your own sweet & low all they have is sugar and wet sloppy packets of splenda) $55 without the tip. Didn't think it was possible but Taco Bell doesn't look that bad right now. You should never leave a lunch that costs over $60 dollars and think jeez I'm hungry

Absurdly overpriced for average quality food at best. I think the divide in ratings on this place stems from the fact that there is almost no decent Mexican-food places in Bucks County. In comparison, anything edible seems fantastic. This place is in an area full of tourist traps. If you want unspectacular Mexican (not Tex Mex or Cal Mex) at average prices, just walk over the river bridge to the tacqueria in Lamvbertville.

I wasn't impressed. The prices are really high, but if you in for lunch they do have a $13.95-for-any-entree type special. Tortilla chips were alright, homemade salsa was decent. Entrees are nothing more than mediocre, or very slightly above average at best. We had the mole enchiladas, burritos, chili con carne, and a few other dishes- but don't expect too much variety, the menu only has maybe 10 or 12 entrees, and they're all very similar. The only reason I gave three stars instead of two is the service- the waitress was super friendly, as was the owner. The inside is cozy but not stuffy; a great atmosphere. But don't expect to be wowed by the food.

Excellent, traditional Mexican food...BYOB. They have real Queso here...the kind with the sausage in it!

While eating here, I think at one point during the meal one of use compared our food to that of the dog variety. That line pretty much summed up our experience. The food was just plain awful, not good at all. The service was so friendly though, and the restaurant was so nice and quaint, like many places in New Hope (truly a wolf in sheep's clothing). I thought it was going to be really tasty authentic Mexican food, but I'm not lying when I say I could probably get better Mexican food from a Taco Bell overridden with rats. On top of all this, they were way too expensive. Overcooked meat, bland sauces, and weird aftertastes were just a few highlights of this train wreck of a meal.

My family and I have eaten here well over a dozen times. This is authentic Mexican food, not Taco Bell, and not some Tex-Mex place that only gets good reviews because it has a bar. This place has a quiet and cozy atmosphere right on the river. The outdoor seating adds a very nice touch for summer dining. The food is the real deal, not the outrageously spicy Mexican food that other restaurants serve. The menu always has changes and specials, as the family that runs it is always trying new recipes and ideas. What really makes this a special restaurant is the family that owns it. They are some of the kindest and welcoming people I have ever met. When you eat here it feels like they are welcoming you to their house and the recipes they use have been passed down through the family.

The food was not bad but WAY overpriced for what you get. Our table got good service, but the table next to us sat there for maybe 15-20 minutes before receiving a menu, and when our waitress asked whether they had been helped, she had no idea that they hadn't been. I ordered a quesadilla which had way too much cheese and was room temperature. The guacamole was good but my mom could have made it at home for $5 - there was no need for it to be $12. We didn't bother to take the leftovers home. It wasn't dirty or awful, it just was not worth the money - I'm sure there are much better options in New Hope.

We've had a number of very pleasant meals here. I always have the guacamole, since I think it's the best I've had anywhere and they make it very fresh. The outside seating is nice when the weather is nice, and the staff are very friendly.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
